On the occasion of Republic Day, flag hoisting was done at the IIM Campus by Director Dr Vinita Sahai at 7.30 am, following which she spoke about the significance of Republic Day while addressing faculty and students. Dr Sahai said that we should be committed to our responsibilities towards our country. She appreciated the soldiers on the borders saying that when the army is ready to lay down its life day and night for the country, then we also have a duty to do something for the country. She also motivated the students saying that we shouldn’t wait for our country to give something to us rather we should think about what we can offer for the development of our country. She gave the example of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam saying that he gave his country first priority. She also mentioned various ways in which we can play a role in the development of our country and our institute. She motivated the students to donate blood, keep the campus clean and plant trees. Following the event, the students sang patriotic songs and took part in quizzes. After this, a friendly cricket match was played between the faculty and the students. In the match, the faculty team won the toss and scored 56 runs in 8 overs, batting first. The team of students chased the target and scored 57 runs in 6 overs. From the faculty, Dr Anirban Sengupta scored the most 18 runs and Ashish Singh took 3 wickets from the student’s team and Avinash Yamla scored the highest 25 runs for which he was awarded Man of the Match.
